Edyta was born on 14 November 1972 in Ziebice, Poland.
Her musical career goes back to a TV talent show in 1989. Her first role was in the musical ‘Metro’.
In 1994 her single ‘Tó nie ja / Once in a Lifetime’ was released.
Her debut album ‘Dotyk’ (‘Touch’) was a bestseller with more than 200,000 copies sold.
Her first international album ‘Edyta Gorniak’ was produced by Chris Neil who also spotted Céline Dion’s talent.
Edyta Gorniák came 2nd in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Tó nie ja!’ (which can be translated as ’This is not me’). She performed the song in English during the dress rehearsal and was told that it was against the Eurovision rules.
Edyta’s second place is Poland’s best ever ranking in Eurovision history.
After her Eurovision success, Edyta began recording her songs in English, too, although she once admitted that she felt insecure singing in that language.
She became a star in Scandinavia, the UK and numerous Eastern European countries.
With Queen manager Jim Beach’s help, Edyta signed a record deal with Virgin Germany. The 2003 released album included the disco hit ‘Impossible’ by Ackerman/Watkins/Wilson. Critics claimed it was a copy of Sweet’s song ‘Love is like Oxygen’.
At the age of 32 Edyta announced her retirement from showbiz. She married musician Dariusz Krupa, gave birth to a son, Allan, and bought a house near Warszaw.
Her ‘retirement’ lasted until 2005 when she founded her own record company and started work on her latest album. The first single from this album is ‘Lunatique’, which she sings in French.
